Latest Announcement Page last updated: 6/29/20 at 10:00 a.m. CDT As outlined in the University’s Plan for a Return to Full Operations, all UA students, faculty and staff will be tested for the coronavirus before their return to campus this fall. A statewide initiative for higher education announced today by the Governor will make those return to campus tests FREE to all students. The University will also test all faculty and staff at no cost as they return to campus. Random sentinel testing will also be conducted at no cost throughout the fall semester to further ensure the best health of campus. As students, faculty and staff begin returning to the campus, everyone will be required to complete three steps: Complete the return to campus test for the virus. Complete a short web-based training course about the virus, symptoms and how to mitigate associated risks. Complete the online UA Healthcheck symptom assessment tool on a regular basis. Details about the free testing, the type of test, and who will administer it will be shared as protocols are finalized in the next few weeks. Information about the online training and the Healthcheck assessment tool will also be provided in coming weeks, as will other resources, including participation in a voluntary COVID notification program. The University is planning for the vast majority of fall classes to include weekly in-person instruction. Ongoing modifications to our classrooms and moving classes to larger rooms to accommodate greater distancing will allow more in-person meeting space and in-person instruction. Over the summer, plans will continue to be refined incorporating the latest guidance from health officials. The testing program, in addition to other guidance provided in the UA Plan for a Return to Full Operations including mandatory masks in classes, communal office space and other gatherings, will support UA’s efforts to maintain a healthy campus environment. UA is using the Stay Safe TogetherTM program coordinated through UAB and the UA System Office. Updates to these processes and the UA Return Plan will be announced via email and posted on the healthinfo.ua.edu/returnplan website.
