Message from VP for Student Life – Sept. 11

Dear Students,

Our numbers for testing continue to improve and I remain grateful for your vigilant attention to campus policies helping us curb the spread of COVID-19. It is imperative we all continue to follow our UA Health and Safety Guidelines as we strive to complete a safe fall semester.

The moratorium on in-person gatherings remains in effect. However, because of your commitment to halting the spread of COVID-19, I am pleased to share the following changes, effective Monday, Sept. 14:

  • Campus study spaces in residential areas are eligible to be opened.
  • Dining rooms will be opened with strict adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Colleges and departments can begin to host in-person events that follow the previous limitations for a maximum of 50 people inside and 100 people outside. Events must be submitted for approval through the appropriate VP or dean’s office.
  • Students who live in the same residence hall may visit each other’s rooms, provided: (1) masks are worn; (2) social distancing is strictly observed; and (3) each resident is limited to one guest at a time.

Social distancing, mask wearing, and other health and safety protocols must be strictly observed in all of these environments. Student-organized gatherings and events remain prohibited at this time.

The gradual loosening of moratorium restrictions will continue to be evaluated as we move forward. With your continued cooperation, and as our numbers for testing and student conduct cases continue to improve, we will consider longer-term plans for the semester. We must stay the course and continue to follow the health and safety protocols set forth in the Return to Full Operations Plan.

We have listened and responded to your concerns about evolving our policies to create the healthiest learning environment possible. I hope the changes outlined above demonstrate our continued commitment to your academic success and creating a more engaged and safe campus for all.

Thank you again as we all do our part to stay Tide Together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Myron Pope
Vice President for Student Life
